The upgrade will require vehicle registrations and titling services, including e-Services and tag renewal kiosks, to be unavailable Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 7 pm through Monday, January 3, 2022. Vehicle owners with expiration dates in late December and early January are encouraged to renew prior to December 30, 2021 at 7 pm to avoid delays.

Please note that Liberty County will be closed on December 31, 2021 in observance of the New Year’s Day holiday.

2021 Property Tax Bills have been released, due by January 25, 2022

Payments may be made by the following methods:

• In-person at our main office located at 106 Main St., Hinesville
• By mail to: Liberty County Tax Commissioner, 100 Main St. Suite 1545, Hinesville Ga. 31313
• Online at www.libertygatax.com
• Place in one of three drop boxes:
1. Located outside of the Liberty County Courthouse Annex at 106 Main St. Hinesville
2. Located inside the lobby of the Liberty County Courthouse Annex
3. Located inside the Liberty County Community Complex located at 9397 E Oglethorpe Hwy, Midway

New Decals

Effective January 1, 2011, “IN GOD WE TRUST” decals are available to display on one’s car tag in lieu of the county name decal. These decals are $1 each and are available in the Tag Office.

New Fees to Renew Most Specialty Tags

House Bill 1055, which went into effect on May 26, 2010, added an additional $35 in addition to the regular tag fee to renew most specialty tags. The tags most affected are Wild Life tags (Deer, Bobwhite Quail and Humming Bird), Dog, Cat, Educator, Purple Cone Flower and Wild Flower tags. The new fees can be found at http://dor.georgia.gov/motor-vehicles. On the left side of the page click "Plate Samples".

Vehicles Aquired from Non-Dealers

EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2011 House Bill 1005

Within seven (7) business days of purchase or other acquisition of a vehicle, the new owner shall, pursuant to O.C.G.A 40-2-29 apply to the owner's County Tag Agent and present the Certificate of Title, and insurance, accompanied by applicable fees. If the Certificate of Title is in the possession of a security interest or lien holder, the County Tag Agent shall issue a temporary operating permit valid for 30 days.

Gold Star Tag

The Georgia Department of Revenue, Motor Vehicle Division will allow The Gold Star Tag (honoring the family members of service members who have been killed in action) to begin issuance. This tag will only be issued to a family member directly related to the fallen member (un-married spouse, legal mother, legal father, sibling, and step-parent). Car Insurance - Cancel Tag

Vehicle owners who cancel insurance on a motor vehicle are required to come into the office and cancel the tag. The tag has to be cancelled the same day insurance coverage is cancelled. If the vehicle is later reinsured, the owner must bring a binder from their insurance company and reinstate the tag. Failure to do so will result in fines and/or suspension of registration by the Georgia Department of Revenue.
